Frequently asked questions:
Who should attend?
If you have been wondering how to start meditating, and how it might help you?
Or you have been feeling stress or overwhelm and want to find ways to feel calmer?
If you just want some time out to relax, learn and have fun with like minded people.
Then this is the day for you.
This is the chance to experience a range of techniques that may start you on the journey of being able to manage your own stress in a fun and gentle way.
How to get the best out of the day?
What is meditation?
Sometimes it is easier to describe what meditation is not! Meditation will not stop you from thinking, and will not instantly clear your mind! It will not be a magical experience that is instantly life changing (we cannot promise lightening bolts).
Meditation is a range of techniques that need to be practiced, allowing you to reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness, and positive wellbeing.
Not one meditation technique will suit all people. The great thing about a retreat day like ours is that you can experience a range of techniques and find what suits you, allowing for some more exploration.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the ability to be present, and experience the here and now. Being mindful gives you the opportunity to be engaged fully in whatever you are doing in the moment. Mindfulness throughout the day could be the simplest tool you can learn to overcome your overwhelm.
Do you have to close your eyes during meditation?
You do not have to close your eyes, during meditation or mindfulness exercises. Throughout the day we will work with each individual to help them find what works best for them when meditating.
What is Self Compassion Mindfulness?
Kristin Neff has defined self-compassions being composed of three main components: 1) Self-kindness – being kind to your self for no other reason but there is pain or suffering. 2) Common Humanity – recognising you are not alone in this, others are also experiencing this. 3) Mindfulness – being aware of your pain and suffering.
What is HeartMath?
HeartMath Institute (HMI) is an innovative non-profit research and education organization. HeartMath products, tools and techniques are based on over 30 years of scientific research conducted at the HeartMath Institute on the psychophysiology of stress, emotions, and the interactions between the heart and brain.
In 1991 Dr. Andrew Armour, made a very important discovery! The heart has its own “little brain“ approximately 40,000 neurons (called sensory neurites). The heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. The Neurons in the heart have both short term and long term memory, and the signals they send to the brain can affect our emotional experiences.
The techniques that they have created and researched as simple, easy to apply and very effective at creating a coherent state between the Heart and Brain. HeartMath research has shown that with only 3 minutes of coherent breathing changes our chemistry for up to 6 hours.
What is Ho’oponopono?
Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of healing through self forgiveness. We can learn a lot about forgiveness from this ancient and powerful tradition. Ho’o means ‘to make‘ and pono ‘right‘ – the double use of pono means with both yourself and others. The ancient Haiwaiins understood that harbouring negative emotions like anger and resentment only hurts the person who can’t forgive, this is not about right or wrong but a symbolic way to cut the connection to that event or person that is causing us pain.
It is a beautiful, simple and very effective technique. During the day we will learn more about the Ho’oponopono and how it can be used in everyday life.
Is any of this Religious or does it clash with religious beliefs?
Despite its Buddhist roots, mindfulness is not specific to any religious faith. Mindfulness is a something we all on average do about 53% in our day. Regardless, core to almost all religions is the notion of the contemplative life. By turning inwards, people of faith have revelations, clarity, and courage. By exploring the interior space, one’s connection with their faith is strengthened, along with taking part in other faith-specific activities. Mindfulness, as taught in this retreat, is simply about developing our ability to be fully present moment to moment without judgement and thus is compatible with religious faiths.
Karen will not be basing the sessions on a particular religion, rather general spiritual practice.
What happens if I have allergies to food?
We will do our best to provide a morning tea and Lunch that is suitable for most people, please advise us when booking of any allergies.
I have some questions or I am not sure if this the right day for me?
Feel free to give Karen (0406338959) a call and have a chat. We would be more than happy to talk through your questions and concerns
★★★★★ “ I attended the Mindfulness meditation retreat today and was not dissappointed. Karen imparted the concepts of Acceptance and Committment therapy and how our default , autopolot system affects our behaviours and attitudes and how we can challenge and change these autopilot behaviours. Karen lead us through the process to become aware of our Vision, mission, purpose and values. Throughout the day we had the opportunity to experience many types of mindfulness meditation.
We were also forunate enough to have Emma explain the health of the digestive system and how this can be improved through diet & reducing stress. The meals created by Emma were not only nutritious but really tasty.
Thank to both Karen & Emma a very enlightening and motivating day in an inspiring environment
Thank you” charlaineh258
